The Sports and Technical Organisation has been founded in 1952. It was an organisation for younger people up to the age of 18 years. Main target was training for later military services (so in the official handbook of GDR in 1979). In the year 1979 the organisation has around 530,000 members in more than 9,800 local sections.

The orgnisation had it's own vehicles with a special registration in black on yellow plates. In opposite to the normal series only one letter denoting the district was in use.
